Jayde Baguley, Editor-in-Chief

Jayde is a third year multimedia journalism student and editor of JCNN. In her down time Jayde enjoys playing computer games, listening music and photography. Jayde wishes to incorporate her love of travelling and music into her work and her dream is to become a photojournalist covering issues and events all over theworld. Sam O’Brien, Managing Editor

 

In semester 1 2016, Sam O’Brien will be taking on the role of Managing Editor for JCNN. As an avid sport enthusiast, Sam is attracted to the back pages of the paper, however his interest in journalism in all forms was apparent from a young age. Sam says the greatest appeal to him of a career in journalism is the ability to influence Public Opinion and he looks forward to a career of sharing knowledge with the global community. Sam would list his specific areas of interest as Sport, Politics and Entertainment but is excited to experience all JCNN has to offer this semester. Upon graduating Sam hopes to work within the sports industry as either a reporter or with the media/public relations team of specific clubs or governing bodies. Sam is always keen to hear from any aspiring journalists with ideas for improving JCNN and would be happy to pass any suggestions on to the editorial board. Amy Crawford, Chief Sub-editor

Amy is JCNN’s chief sub-editor, and is currently in her third and final year of her Multimedia Journalism degree. Growing up in a Defence Force family, Amy has moved nine times; living in five different countries before finally migrating to Australia in 2008. Aside from her beloved Wests Tigers, Amy loves travelling, culture, and jigsaw puzzles. Usually, she can be found reading a good book, crying through a romantic comedy, or hyperventilating in front of a footballer. As a reporter for JCNN Sam is passionate about telling people’s stories to the wider community, he is a proud Townsvillian who is always interested in knowing what’s going on in the town around him. He has a keen eye for photojournalism and videography and someday hopes to work in either field. In his spare time you can find Sam spearfishing the Great Barrier Reef or riding his motorcycle through the Daintree taking in beauty North Queensland has to offer. Sam enjoys travel, good coffee, and adventures with good company and someday wishes to combine the three to make a living. Allison Byrnes, Reporter

Third year multimedia journalism student and JCNN reporter Allison Byrnes has a keen interest in promoting the local area with stories that need to be told. Coming from a rural farming community, her knowledge of rural pressures and life can be transcribed into her writing. In her downtime, Allison can be found scrolling through fashion blogs, creating clothes, and worshiping Julie Bishop. Keep and eye out in the future for Allison jet setting to the front row of wonderful fashion shows and being a panelist on Q&A (a girl can only dream)

Erin Jusseaume, Reporter

Former editor and media correspondent for the Australasian Team Roping Association, Erin has a strong passion for the rural industry. Erin always strives to raise awareness and leave a lasting mark in the industry she loves. Her journalism provides the platform where she does her best work, helping men, women and children in the industry. As a journalist and rodeo competitor, her work bridges the gap between Australia’s hidden talents and promotes the best of the best on the world stage. Erin’s long term career goals are to highlight and support the under-reported arena of all strong rural families and community leaders in the sport of rodeo and wider rural life.

Mitchell is a third year multimedia journalism student and is the chief sports writer for JCNN. He enjoys watching and writing about almost any sports but has a particular interest in Cricket, AFL and Racing. He hopes to become a sports reporter for a newspaper. Kiara Hayward, Deputy Sub-editor

Kiara Hayward moved to Townsville from Katherine in the Northern Territory in 2012. After graduating from Northern Beaches State High School she decided to follow her passion for writing and enroll in the Bachelor of Multimedia Journalism. Her other passions include films, books, music, and everything that fits into the entertainment genre. Kiara loves writing reviews for theatre performances, films, and books. She hopes to one day gain a career where she can continue to immerse herself in her passions and write reviews and entertainment stories for a print publication.

Sanjey

Sanjay Sureshkumar, Reporter (Music and Sport)

 

Sanjey Sureshkumar is a journalist currently based in Townsville. 2016 will be his second year working as a reporter for JCNN, where he covers both online print and video stories. He is also working as a reporter for AFL Townsville. Sanjey is looking to cover stories in any category but his passion happens to be in music, sport and film. Looking to gain experience to be a filmmaker in the future, Sanjey will also be working mostly with the multimedia sector of video journalism. When he isn’t working with stories and university he uses his spare time to work on video projects and listen to music.

Andrew Sands, Reporter

Andrew is an enthusiastic radio announcer in the making who is looking to get the most out of the media side of his Multimedia Journalism degree to take with him as he starts his journey to take him there. He enjoys writing about science, technology and the natural environment as well as pop culture. As a reporter for JCNN, he hopes to bring readers news that matter – from their very own city to the entire globe.

 

JCNN multimedia editor Ahlia. born and bred in Cairns, is a keen lover of the arts and all things quirky, amateur radio host and arcade addict. Strives to spread the love and share interesting stories with interesting people. She dreams of one day rocking airwaves and finding better ways to keep the world informed/educated. She loves all things that capture the moment and can fit 28 malteasers in her mouth before choking.
