About Us

Welcome to JCNN!

Here you will read stories that no-one else covers. While we cannot cover every news angle as we don’t have the resources of mainstream media organisations, we work hard to offer you unique coverage you won’t get anywhere else.

We don’t follow the pack and we try not to offer the same headlines as everyone else. Unlike the mainstream media, we have plenty of budding journalists, lots of time, and no advertisers, so we have no need to compromise. We look beyond the press releases to bring you a unique voice from the North.

While the work published on JCNN is produced mostly by journalism students from James Cook University, we welcome your news too.

We want to create conversations about the place where we live so we want to hear from you.

Initial funding for the journalism degree and JCNN was made available from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations through its Diversity and Structural Adjustment Fund. The funding is to carry out a project, ‘Australia’s University for the Tropics’.
